Pativai's Stonefield School Flag

My flag represents the school values we use in Stonefields school. I have a explanation on what the flag represents on each different part. I had this idea come to me because we always use it in learning and play time also in sports. What I think I did very well on this flag is the things I used to represent Stonefields. I think I could of had done a better job on having it, look more clearer and have a bit more explanation on the flag. The most hardest thing I had to do was try and figure out an design on, how to put this flag in a nice flag kind of look.

Dear John Key,

My name is Maya and I am in year 4 at Stonefields School.

firstly
why do they have to change  the flag just because australia thinks so. I think that the flag that they have doesn't suit them they should make it orange with yellow kangaroo on it or something so we can keep our flag.

finally
I think that it is not fair that australia is making us change our flag just because they got their flag before we got our flag and I think that there flag does not really look like it represents their country. How does there flag represent there culture I think that they should have a kangaroo on there flag because they are the only country in the world that has a kangaroo.

Yours Sincerely
Maya

Maya's Stonefields School Flag Design

This is my  stonefields school flag  and To make it I had to deside what I was going to put on my flag. So me and charlie went onto an app called pixela. We found these little men and then we coloured them to look like the learning process people. After that Me and charlie made a mountain and put the rocks in it just like on the pit when It digs under ground you see the rocks of the the little men.

Dear John Key,

My name is Curie, I am a year 6 girl at Stonefields School in Auckland. I live with my family and we are from South Korea, But we live in St John’s in Auckland. This term my class have been focusing on New Zealand changing our flag and we decided to send this letter to you so you can understand how each of us feels about changing the flag.

In my opinion I think that we should change the New Zealand flag because in my opinion I believe that we are not part of the British Government anymore and the flag does not represent us. Also in my point of view I can see that the new flag can show the world that we are New Zealand more clearly because the black can represent the All Blacks, Black Caps and other New Zealand black sports team. The Silver Fern can represent all the places around New Zealand. Also I like how we added a symbol of black and the Silver Fern to show that we are New Zealand just like South Korea has a symbol that appears around South Korea and it also appears on the flag.

I wonder if most people want other ideas for the new flag like me. I know that lots of people have been voting and some have been voting for the old flag while others are voting for the new flag.If I was able to vote then I would vote for the new flag.

Yours Sincerely

Curie.C

Dear John Key,

My name is Pativai I am an year 6 and I go to Stonefields School.

I strongly believe we should change the flag because of the three reasons I am going to be explaining.

Firstly, I think we should change the flag because it is an original flag of new zealand and no other flag has other colours of designs like us. We should change our flag because of the fern in our flag there is no other flag that has an fern on it. We need an new flag because of our old flag it was simple and when we have our new flag we have a bright colourful New Zealand flag.

Secondly, I think we should change the flag because of all the culture from new zealand has been put into this flag. I think we should change the flag because of the fern and the colours in the flag for example blue is representing the south pacific. I think the flag should be changed because of it mostly representing new zealand, for an example the fern represents the sport in new zealand.

Thirdly, I think we should change the flag because it would be really nice to have an sports sign on our flag now it can represent the fitness and the gold silver and bronze that the spots team has been winning. The flag can represent our old flag too because the blue can maybe in some way represent.

I really think that we should change the flag because of the three reasons that I explained to you.

Yours Sincerely

flag referendum process by Shanya

The flag referendum procces

For the past few weeks we have been learning about the flag referendum. For build knowledge we had to go home and ask our parents if they wanted to change the flag or not, and why?

Then we moved onto make meaning we had to analyse people's comments, like which one we liked the most and which part we agree with. For the other part of make meaning we had to annotate Freya's flag.

For apply understanding we had to make our own flag and annotate it. Then we had to send a letter to John key about whether or not we wanted to change New Zealand's  flag.

Finally we had to share our letters to John key and our flag onto the hub blog. Then we did our own personal private vote. Then we did our private referendum vote for our hub! For the results it was 44% for the old flag and the new flag it was 56%! Some people were happy and some were not because the new flag had more votes than the old flag.

Dear John Key,

My name is Carmen ,I’m a year six girl at Stonefields School. I live with my family in
St John's in Auckland.

I strongly believe that the New Zealand flag should stay the same for the following 3 reasons.

Firstly, the New Zealand flag has lots of memories of the Anzac War like how people died to protect New Zealand under the flag, so we could have a better world without war and disturbance to New Zealand. Also my sister is a brownie/girl guide and it means so much to keep the original flag as it is.

Secondly, the current flag suits New Zealand perfectly, the blue comes from the sea/ocean.
The Union Jack image represents how we used to be a part of the British empire. The southern cross represents the stars at night that watch over us and guide us south.

Finally I know the flag referendum would cost over $26 million. I know it’s not much for you, but think about the homeless they don't have as much money, and cancer, think about that. They need money, don’t get me started on a rest home oh boy they need money and hospitals, doctors, schools, kindergarten lots of other places that I probably don’t know about yet.

That's why I think we should keep the original flag as it is.

Yours Sincerely Carmen A

Dear John Key,

My name is Charlie and I am in year four at Stonefields School.

This Is  what I think about the flag referendum.

Why do we have to change the flag? Just because our flag was made after Australia it does not mean that we have to change the flag. Did you know that there used to be 53 countries that had that union jack on their flag and have changed it since, plus that money could have been used on something way better than a new flag. Such as  giving it to charity, that would have been a much better choice.
Did you know lots of people think that getting a new flag is just a waste of money. I agree because I think that this is a waste of money, and that we should keep the flag because lots of our soldiers have fought and died underneath that flag.
I am a scout and scout’s represent the
anzac soldiers which is why that is important to me.
Yours Sincerely,
Charlie

Curie's Stonefields School Flag Design

This is my learning about designing a flag for Stonefields School. I enjoyed making this flag because I could add images and create images. I felt that this task was interesting because I could design my own flag for school.
Next time I could improve on adding more things that relate to Stonefields School. See my labelled flag below, which shows why I used the different symbols.

Charlie's Flag Design

This is my flag design for Stonefields school. Maya and I worked together on the hill with the rocks and the people from the learning process. I came up with the Trees and the butterflies by myself.

Stonefields flag by Ashleigh

Design a flag that would be suitable to fly for Stonefields School.
You will need to bring what you know about the school, consider what colors, symbols and important values need to be represented on your design.

My flag design by Shanya

Today we had to design a flag for our School. first we had to ask our parents about what they think about changing the flag, then we had to annotate someone else's flag that they made. After we had to make a flag for our school. I think I did well at designing the mountain and the rocks, but I found it quite difficult to do the left side of the mountain.

Ashleigh's letter to John Key

Dear John Key,

My name is Ashleigh I am Year 6 girl at Stonefields school. I know if you want to change flag you need to use lots of money, but most people in our school want to change the flag, some people said we need to change our flag because Australia has copied our flag, some people said we shouldn't change our flag because that is wasting money.

I think we shouldn't change our flag because this flag has lots of history and you also can see the England flag inside our flag, so I think this flag is talking about where New Zealand has come from.

The new flag has symbols that represent New Zealand. However, the current flag, also represents our country. Some people said Australia is copying it, by just adding one star in the bottom of the flag but it still different, so this is why I don’t want to change our flag.  I know there is lots of people who want to change our flag but also lots of people don’t want to change our flag. I also don’t want to change our flag.

I was wondering why most of people in New Zealand want to change our current flag, I think this flag is better than the new flag. We already changed the New Zealand flag 100 years ago, so we are wasting money (26 million) to change our flag again. If we change our flag New Zealand’s history is going to have to start again.

Yours Sincerely
Ashleigh
